2559. Une année s'est écoulée depuis que l'intelligence artificielle renégate Cortana a pris le contrôle du Domaine, une dimension ésotérique contenant un vaste réseau d'informations. Armée d'un vaste arsenal forerunner, Cortana impose une paix impériale sur les civilisations de la galaxie. Alors que l’Infinity, le vaisseau-amiral de l'UNSC, s'apprête à affronter Cortana sur le Halo Zêta, une autre opération commence.
